Artist Statement

My work investigates shifts in landscapes that are impacted by climate change.

My driving questions are “How do humans navigate a shifting landscape?”

“At what point will environments fall apart?”  and “How will these spaces adapt?”

I am drawn to the way that living beings navigate and adapt to climate-vulnerable landscapes; specifically how resilience manifests in response to degrading habitats. My work is a resting point for these narratives; both present reality and imagined future.

Recently I’ve been working on a series of paintings that reflects on human apathy toward wildfire devastation of public lands. This work came out of a self-imposed residency in The Mojave Desert, where I spent weeks painting on site in order to distill the colors and textures of the landscape. From there I created narratives in the studio that addressed the mentality that “we just have to live our lives” despite the encroaching devastation of our shared landscapes.
