The Phillips Collection and Turner Elementary School, 2017 - 2018  Washington, DC Arts Integration Teaching Artist  I worked as an arts integration educator with 1st and 2nd grade students at Turner Elementary School. Students were asked to engage with art in a dynamic and meaningful way as they connected it to their classroom learning.  Graduate Research Project and Pilot Program 2014 Burmese Refugee Project, Pai, Thailand  I designed and implemented a summer pilot arts and literacy program as part of a funded graduate research program through VCU. I led art and English literacy lessons for Shan refugees who had recently resettled in rural Thailand. Throughout the program I evaluated the efficacy of each lesson and collaborated with local artists to ensure continuity and relevance. I celebrated the participant’s hard work by organizing an art show for the entire community.

 Service Learning VCU, 2013. San Juan de Comalapa, Guatemala  Teaching Artist  As part of a study abroad graduate class, I participated in a service-learning trip to San Juan de Comalapa. Here I worked with high school students to create a community artwork which addressed environmental and social concerns that the students themselves had. Throughout the course of the project, students designed messages which would represent their concerns for their chosen issue. I researched local art making practices and asked students to  use these culturally relevant materials to create a community artwork.

Participants were encouraged to engage with historically relevant sites by observing and recreating the neighbourhood through various demonstrated sketching techniques.
